Abandon Buildings

I was out early last Saturday morning just doing some fun shooting for a change. I'd been told about this abandon school house and old gas station. The gas station is in Spiker, NE. the school house is kind of in the middle of nowhere. I also came across this farm house that looked abandon.

The last regular season game for the Fremont Tribune Vikings. They ended the regular season undefeated and the number one seed in the playoffs.

But as these things usually go, the week off and most of the practices rained out before their 1st game of the playoffs, seemed to make them a little sluggish.

They played the Packers in the 1st game of the playoffs and the Packers came to play and played their best game of the season. The championship game is Sunday between the Packers and the Lions.

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Well it's been a while since I've posted anything. I've been pretty busy shooting soccer, football, volleyball and seniors. Here are a few from a recent senior shoot. This is Sarah, I really enjoyed this session. She was a lot of fun and wasn't afraid to climb through or on anything to get a good shot.

Soccer Has Started

Soccer has started, I'm still waiting for football though. Had some bad sunlight for this game, next time I'm heading to the other side of the field. There will be more soccer, football and volleyball to come.

Doe and her Fawn

I took a little trip out to the lakes this morning to see if I could spot some wildlife. There wasn't a lot out, but did find this doe and her fawn right beside the road. Then in another area there were a few turkeys.

Car Show

It was a pretty uneventful day today, just doing some work for my regular job. I took some images at a car show in Hooper, Ne. a while ago so I'll post some of those. Some pretty nice rides there.

Vacation

Two post the same day, got to make hay while the sun shines I guess.

I took a short vacation camping with my kids and grandkids. It was sure good to get away and relax for a few days.

We did some fishing and had some pretty good luck with the white bass trolling from the pontoon boat.

There was lots of wildlife to photograph, mostly Egrets and Great Blue Heron, but tons of them.

It was really good to see my kids and grandkids since I live so far from them, don't get to see them as often as I would like.

Farm Wedding

It's been awhile since I've posted, I really need to do a better job of this.

I shot a wedding a couple of weeks ago. It was a pretty casual affair at the couples farm, but fun, especially for the kids. The couple Mike and Carla are friends of mine too. Here are a few images.

Spring Fling Tournament

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but so far no followers have signed on, so probably no harm done.

The Fremont Nighthawks had their annual Spring Fling baseball tournament last weekend. Lots of games played starting on Friday and ending Sunday evening. The Fremont teams did well with Taylor & Martin winning the 13u division and Neuhaus Trucking taking 2nd place in the 11u divisioin.

These were all A and AA teams in this tournament. 5 teams from Fremont and 26 teams in all.

There was some very good baseball played all weekend long, I shot 11 of the games that the Fremont teams were in. I wish I could have made them all.

More Strobist Assignments

This is the 2nd strobist assignment. We did some experimenting with color correction gels on our off camera flashes. Specifically CTO gels (color temperture orange) These come in different strengths, full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8.

For this assignment I use Tonya for my subject, a much better looking subject than myself this time. We started with the full CTO which is quite orange. Then graduated down to the 1/8 CTO. I bounced the flash off a white background on Tonya's left and used a reflector to bounce a little bit of light back onto the right side of her face. I'm still undicided which I like the best, but I'm leaning toward the full CTO even though it really intensifies the orange.

Dillon Brothers Double Header

May 2 the Nighthawks 10u select baseball team Dillon Brothers Harley played a double header against the Millard Hooks. Game one was all Dillon Brothers winning 15 to 5 thanks to some good hitting and aggressive base running, not to mention playing some pretty good defense.

Game two was a bit more challenging maybe too many hotdogs between games or something, but the bats went to sleep for most of the game going in Dillon Brothers last at bat down 9 to 5. But then the bats woke up with the first two batters reaching base and then a 2 run tripple by Tyler Push started the ralley and they didn't stop until they pull out the victory winning 10 to 9.

Well baseball season has finally begun. This was the first game for the Nighthawks 10 and under team sponsored by Dillon Brothers Harley. They played a very good game leading a double A team that had already won 4 games this year the whole game until the last inning. They were at a slight disadvantage in that this is the first year that these boys have been allowed to steal bases, so they were caught off guard a little in the last inning to lose by only one run. Still they have a lot to hang their hats on seeing as how it was their 1st game of the year and they played well.

Weekends with Wildlife

On the weekends I like to get out early in the mornings to try and capture some wildlife shots. I live pretty close to a cluster of small lakes and there is usually a pretty good varity of wildlife running around. Here are a few shots from Friday morning. When I took the photo of the Egret it was actually pretty light outside, but I used the spot meter on my camera to meter off the white feathers to render most of the background dark.

The Pelican and Cormorants I took from one of my favorite spots elevated above the lake. The Pelicans migrate through here every year, but this year there wasn't near as many as last year.
Well Baseball starts tomorrow so you will start seeing lots of sports images here soon.

Strobist Assignment

Well I finished my strobist assignment, and it was a lot of fun. I wish I would of had a better subject than myself, but that was the assignment. We were to take a self portrait using a small flash off camera bouncing the light off a white wall. Well I don't have any white walls in my house, so I used a white backdrop.

The first shot shows my set up then the next one is the final shot. Like I said a better subject would have been nice, but that's the way it goes. It is a lot of work being the photographer and the model at the same time. My garage wasn't the best background either, but there was more room to work with there.

Hopefully we will continue to do more of these assignments, they are a great way to learn new things.

Back from Oklahoma

Well I had a great time at the Blue Moon Meetup in Oklahoma. And took lots of photos. If I can figure out how to post some I will.

This is Lindsey and Kelsey, they were fantastic. They put up with 80 photographers for 4 days telling them to move here do this turn this way and always had a smile ready when they needed it. I met a lot of new friends and fellow photographers and got reaquainted with several that I met at last years meetup. I'm already excited about next year.

My next project coming up is some Strobist assignments, I'm not sure what they will be yet, but as soon as I do I will post more on that. I'm going to try and post more often too.
